As women physicians, we're no strangers to the occasional bout of self-doubt and imposter feelings that can creep into our minds, clouding our confidence and dampening our spirits. But what if I told you that there's a simple yet powerful antidote to these negative thoughts? It's all about re-shifting our mindset and embracing the transformative power of positivity and gratitude.

In our recent April Group Coaching forum, we delved into the importance of practicing positive self-talk and gratitude as essential tools in combating imposter feelings and fostering a resilient mindset. Today, I'm thrilled to share some insights and suggestions from that discussion, aimed at empowering women physicians to cultivate a naturally positive mindset in their professional and personal lives.

1. Acknowledge the Positive: Take a moment at the end of each shift to reflect on three things that went well. Whether it's a successful patient interaction, a supportive colleague, or a personal achievement, acknowledging the positives can help shift your focus away from self-doubt and towards appreciation for your strengths and accomplishments.

2. Express Gratitude: Write a thank-you note to yourself or a colleague, expressing appreciation for their support, guidance, or contributions. Cultivating a culture of gratitude not only uplifts others but also fosters a sense of connection and appreciation within your professional community.

3. Positive Affirmations: Harness the power of positive affirmations by writing them on post-it notes and placing them in visible areas where you'll see them regularly. Whether it's on your desk, bathroom mirror, or computer screen, these affirmations serve as gentle reminders of your worth, resilience, and potential.

4. Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or mindful walking. Mindfulness helps ground us in the present moment, fostering a sense of calm and clarity amidst the chaos of our busy lives.

5. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Surround yourself with positive influences, whether it's supportive colleagues, inspiring mentors, or uplifting content. Cultivate a nourishing environment that uplifts and energizes you, helping to counteract the negative effects of self-doubt and imposter feelings.

By intentionally re-shifting our mindset towards positivity and gratitude, we can empower ourselves to navigate the challenges of our medical careers with resilience, grace, and a renewed sense of purpose. Let's embrace the power of positivity and gratitude, one small step at a time, and create a brighter, more fulfilling journey in medicine together. We've got this! 💫
